Sr. Procurement Manager, Indirect (aerospace industry)

South Bay Area

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Senior Manager of Indirect Procurement is accountable for strategy, sourcing, negotiation, and purchase of goods and services that support daily business operations but are not part of a final product delivered to a customer. Responsibilities include but are not limited to purchases for: Facilities, Capital Equipment, IT equipment and software, Procurement and Legal Software, Other Software Licenses, Travel, Security, Transportation, Real Property, Insurance, Corporate Events, and Other Cafeteria and Vending Machines, Supplies, and Professional Services. The Senior Manager is an expert in contracts and negotiations. They manage a small team of indirect buyers. The Senior Manager leads RFP/RFQ processes and uses SAP in daily work. This is a high visibility position who regularly engages with senior leadership in the company, so expert written and verbal communication skills are required. This role requires the ability to solve very complex problems, some independently and others, through cross-functional collaboration.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manages indirect purchases using best-in-industry practices. Ensures appropriate work distribution to buyers and manages the team and individuals by key performance indications that meet company and department objectives.
  • Identify and lead indirect purchases for focus that provide the greatest benefit to support the business. 
  • Establish and maintain a robust indirect procurement team that both meets the immediate needs of  indirect procurement today, but that can meet the demanding requirements of what our indirect procurement must be able to procure in the future to best support growing business needs. 
  • Identify critical suppliers and establish LTAs where it makes business sense
  • Establish best-in-class indirect procurement processes and ensure company-wide compliance.
  • Ensure purchases undergo robust competition and negotiation.
  • Effectively balance risks, make decisions that best serve Marvin’s business interests, and solve complex problems with a sense of urgency.
  • Collaborate with facilities, IT, production, and all other cross-functional departments to ensure robust processes, compliance, best value, and timely resolution.
  • Review and possible implement a contracts management tool, centralized travel, procurement tool, vending or cafeteria services, and or other value-add opportunities for our indirect procurement
  •  Other activities as assigned by the Director or VP of Procurement for the benefit of the organization

 

  

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

·      Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience, including 5 years as a people-manager. Alternatively, a master’s degree or higher, and 6 years of experience, including 3 years as a people-manager

·      2 years of experience must be in either Aerospace, Defense, or another highly regulated industry

·      Excellent coaching skills and examples of success

·      Very strong analytical skills, including especially cost and price analysis techniques and the ability to proactively identify and present key trends to leadership

·      A complex problem-solver who works equally well independently as they do in cross-functional teams

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

·      Experience with ERP, preferably SAP, but SAP not required

·      Strong evidence of contracts negotiation expertise, including complex negotiations and significant cost savings

·      Although it is not required, a Juris Doctor (JD degree) or paralegal training and experience would be helpful

·      DFAR/FAR experience a plus, but not required

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

·      5%-25%, Primarily domestic, but with the possibility of infrequent international travel
